Great read. As a fellow GenXer, I share most of your memories and experiences, except I WAS raised by boomers and I was a latchkey kid. One thing that makes us unique is being the last generation to live our childhood without the influence of big tech, yet many of us embraced it when it began ( I mean you are on TikTok, I taught a millenial how to use SnapChat recently, haha).
The amount of choices available definitely affects the shared experiences/culture but also opens up connections to those we may never have met or spoken to without it. Pros and cons to that!
Recently attended worshops by The Legacy Coalition - https://legacycoalition.com/ - about Christian Grandparenting. As I embark on this phase of life, I think it will be very interesting to see how GenX will grandparent.
Having three generations in the workforce is also exciting, yet challenging, because my observation is that gap is much wider than when I was the young generation entering the workforce.
As Roger Gannam noted, being united in Christ is the best!
Thanks for sharing!
(I think they are using the term Alpha for the generation coming after GenZ. )
What an awesome and thoughtful comment Natalie. Thank you so much. I think there are real opportunities with technology. But as I mentioned in the post, the sheer proliferation and volume of choices must make impacts in some way. Probably many ways I’m not even aware of. And probably in many positive ways as well. It’s funny, I used to tell people Suzanne and I had children so they one day could teach us how to use the computer. But right now, I’m still ahead of the curb with my own kids. I seem to know more about tech than they do. I know I will eventually fall behind, but it’s nice to rub their noses in it right now. 😂. Congratulations on being a grandmother. That is so exciting. Dylan and his wife, Grace, have told me to chill out. They will get to it when they get to it. Lol. They didn’t quite put it that way, but that was the message received. Thanks again for commenting.
Great stuff Dale! I treasure those shared experiences with my fellow Gen Xers, and sometimes wish I could join in on those of my Gen Z kids. But being united in Christ is best of all.
Thanks, Dale. Appreciate your thoughts & observations! Time marches on, doesn’t it? It’s great that we have a God who accompanies us and leads us and loves us and encourages and fights for us as we travel the journey of life!

So grateful for that. I certainly couldn’t make it through life apart from him.
Love this!
Thanks Helene. It’s been in my head for a long time. Glad to get it out of there.
