Tonight’s Verse
I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.
Revelation 1:8
Reflection
Advent is a season of looking back and looking forward. We remember Christ’s first coming as the humble child born in Bethlehem and anticipate his glorious return as the King of kings. Revelation 1:1-8 frames this tension beautifully, reminding us that Jesus Christ is the eternal Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. He stands over all of time and history, sovereign in his plans and faithful to his promises.
In this passage, John’s vision unveils Jesus as the one “who is and who was and who is to come.” This declaration anchors our hope, especially in Advent. The Christ who came to save us is the same Lord who sustains us now and will one day return to make all things new. His presence fills the past, present, and future, ensuring that no part of our lives is outside his loving care and redemptive purpose.
Tonight, as you rest in the glow of Advent’s hope, let the Alpha and Omega quiet your heart. Trust in his eternal promises and his unchanging nature. The one who came and gave his life for you will come again in power and glory. As you prepare for sleep, surrender your anxieties to the One who holds all of time in his hands. Rest in the assurance that his reign is eternal, his purposes are good, and his promises are sure.
Prayer
Almighty Lord, you are the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. In this season of Advent, I thank you for the gift of your first coming and place my hope in the promise of your return. Help me to trust in your eternal plan and rest in your unchanging nature. As I close this day, fill my heart with the peace of knowing that you hold my past, present, and future in your hands. Strengthen my faith as I wait for the day when your glory will be fully revealed. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Hymn Verse
“Joy to the world! The Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing.”
(Joy to the World, Isaac Watts, 1719)
This Evening Peace devotional celebrates the Advent hope rooted in Christ, the Alpha and Omega. He has come, he is present with us now, and he will come again. Rest tonight in the peace of his eternal promises, knowing that he is the beginning and the end of all things. Thanks be to God.
