Resting in His Redeeming Grace
Evening Peace: A Quiet Time of Prayer and Reflection Before Sleep
Tonight’s Verse
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Romans 3:21-26
Reflection
As the day comes to an end, Romans 3:21-26 invites us to reflect on the overwhelming grace of God. These verses unveil the heart of the gospel: though we have all sinned and fall short of God’s glory, we are justified freely by his grace through faith in Jesus Christ. The righteousness of God, which we could never achieve on our own, is given to us as a gift through the redemption found in Christ.
This truth brings a deep and lasting peace, especially as we lay down our burdens from the day. No sin, failure, or regret is too great for the redeeming power of Christ’s blood. God’s righteousness does not condemn us in our failures; instead, he has provided a way for us to stand justified before him. This is not by our works, but through the sacrifice of Jesus, who bore the penalty for our sins and offered us his righteousness in exchange.
Tonight, as you prepare for rest, let this reminder quiet your heart: you are fully accepted and loved in Christ. The work of your salvation is complete, and you are clothed in the righteousness of God through faith. Rest in the assurance that his grace is sufficient for you, and his mercy never fails. You are not defined by your shortcomings but by his redeeming love.
Prayer
Merciful Father, thank you for the gift of grace that comes through your Son, Jesus Christ. I acknowledge my shortcomings and sins, yet I rejoice in the truth that you have justified me through faith in him. As I end this day, let the peace of your redemption settle over me. Free me from the weight of guilt and regret, and remind me that my righteousness is found in Christ alone. Help me to rest in the knowledge of your perfect love, trusting in your provision for tonight and every day to come. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Hymn Verse
“Jesus paid it all, all to him I owe;
Sin had left a crimson stain,
He washed it white as snow.”
(Jesus Paid It All, Elvina M. Hall, 1865)

This Evening Peace devotional is a call to embrace the rest and freedom that come from God’s redeeming grace. As you surrender the day to him, remember that you’re justified and made righteous through faith in Jesus. May this truth bring peace to your heart and mind as you sleep, refreshed by his love.
Rereading the evening devotional this morning I think that the closing prayer will be one to reflect on often. It combines gratitude, it is a confession asking for forgiveness, and adoration for our Lord.
Thank you very much Dale
