Sheltered in His Care
Evening Peace: A Quiet Time of Prayer and Reflection Before Sleep
Tonight’s Verse
Psalm 91:1-2 – He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’
Reflection
As the night draws near, we often find ourselves seeking a sense of security - a place of safety where our hearts can be at ease. Psalm 91 offers a comforting picture of God as our refuge, a shelter where we can find peace, not just in the daylight hours but in the quiet stillness of the night. To dwell in the shelter of the Most High means to live in the awareness of his presence and protection, trusting that he is both powerful and personal. When we abide in his shadow, we rest under the care of the Almighty, who never sleeps nor slumbers (Psalm 121:4).
John Wesley, reflecting on God’s ever-present care, once wrote, “God is always at hand. We need not fear. His providence is with us, His hand upholds us.” How reassuring it is to know that as we surrender our anxieties and uncertainties to God, he becomes our fortress, a place of unshakable peace.
As you prepare for sleep tonight, rest in the knowledge that the Lord is watching over you. Trust him to be your shelter, your refuge from the cares of the day. Release your burdens, and rest peacefully in his loving arms, confident in his care.
Prayer
Gracious Lord, I thank you for being my shelter and my fortress. As I come to the close of this day, I place my trust in you, knowing that you are near and that you protect me. Help me to release my worries and fears, and grant me the peace to rest in your care. May your presence guard my heart and mind as I sleep, and may I awaken refreshed, renewed by your grace. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
This evening’s devotional reminds us of the peace and security that come from dwelling in God’s presence. His care surrounds us, providing a refuge from all that weighs us down, so that we can rest peacefully in his shelter.
