You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay (Psalm 70:5b)
Call to Worship
Leader: Behold our Christ, lifted high on a cross!
People: Behold our Christ, crucified and exalted!
Leader: Those who serve God must expect self-sacrifice, and those who would be glorified with Christ must be prepared to be crucified with Christ!
People: Let us worship the God of the crucified One, praying for the courage of discipleship!
Hymn: “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty” No. 64
Prayer of Confession
We admit sadly to you, long-suffering God, how reluctant we are to place ourselves and our well-being in your hands, and how much we rely instead on our own intellects and abilities to save us from everything deadly that threatens us. Forgive us, we pray, and replace our proud self-reliance with a humble acceptance of the gift of life that you have given us in the death of Christ, in whose name we pray. Amen.
