Tonight’s Verse
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
2 Peter 1:3-4
Reflection
As we enter the Advent season, our hearts turn to the anticipation of Christ’s coming - both his first arrival in Bethlehem and his promised return in glory. Peter reminds us that in Christ, we already have all we need for life and godliness. Through his divine power and great promises, he enables us to grow in grace and live as those prepared for his return.
Advent is a time of preparation, not just outwardly in our homes and churches, but inwardly in our hearts. Peter’s call to “make every effort” to supplement our faith with virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and love (2 Peter 1:5-7) resonates deeply in this season. Each of these qualities reflects the light of Christ, who came into the world to redeem and renew us. As we await his return, growing in these virtues prepares us to meet him with joy and confidence.
Tonight, consider how the promises of God sustain you in your journey of faith. As you reflect on the coming of Christ, let his divine power shape you into someone who reflects his glory. Rest in the assurance that he who called you to his excellence is faithful to complete the good work he began in you. In this Advent season, let every step of your growth be an act of worship as you wait for the Light of the World.
Prayer
Gracious Father, thank you for granting me everything I need for life and godliness through your Son, Jesus Christ. As I reflect on the Advent season, I ask that you prepare my heart for his coming. Help me to grow in faith, virtue, and love, reflecting his light in my life. As I rest tonight, may your promises fill me with peace and hope, and may I awake ready to walk more closely with you. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Hymn Verse
“O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
Who orderest all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.”
(O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, 12th Century Latin Hymn)
This Evening Peace devotional invites you to embrace the Advent season as a time of spiritual growth and preparation. Through his divine power and promises, Christ equips us to live as partakers of his divine nature, reflecting his light as we await his glorious return. Rest in him tonight, knowing he is faithful to complete his work in you.
