Tonight’s Verse
He said to them, ‘Come and you will see.’ So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.
John 1:39
Reflection
In this Advent season, the invitation Jesus extends in John 1 resonates with the deepest longings of our hearts: “Come and see.” Andrew and another disciple, having heard John the Baptist’s proclamation that Jesus is the Lamb of God, seek him out. They ask a simple question, “Rabbi, where are you staying?” His response is equally simple but profoundly personal. Jesus invites them into his presence, and in their time with him, they find the Messiah - the one their hearts have long awaited.
Advent is a season of seeking, much like Andrew and the other disciple. It’s a time of following the signs, searching for the Savior, and responding to his call to “come and see.” In Christ, we find more than answers to our questions - we find a person, a presence, and a peace that transforms our lives. Like Andrew, who went to tell Simon Peter, encountering Jesus leads us to share the good news of his coming with others.
Tonight, as you reflect on the nearness of Jesus, remember that his invitation is for you as well. In the quiet of Advent, hear his gentle call to come closer, to spend time with him, and to see his goodness. Let your heart rest in the assurance that the One you seek has already sought and found you. As you prepare for rest, may the wonder of his presence bring peace and hope to your soul.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for calling me to come and see the fullness of life in you. This Advent season, help me to draw near to your presence, to rest in your peace, and to follow you with all my heart. Like Andrew, may I joyfully share the good news of your coming with others. As I lay down to sleep, let the promise of your nearness fill me with hope and prepare me for another day of walking with you. In your name, I pray. Amen.
Hymn Verse
“Come, thou long expected Jesus,
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.”
(Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus, Charles Wesley, 1744)
This Evening Peace devotional reminds us that Advent is a time to seek and respond to Christ’s invitation to “come and see.” His presence is transformative, bringing peace and joy as we prepare our hearts for his coming. Rest tonight, assured that the Savior you seek has already drawn you near.
